So beautifully put, Kate! It’s TRULY a magical place…
Let’s plan a girl’s weekend! I could really go for some warm weather, butt-kicking hikes, pool lounging and some serious shopping. xo
That sounds wonderful, Jenn! I’m back in CA on the 20th–let’s plan it! xo
That was beautifully said. I live here and I wake up every morning and it is always a wonderful day. thanks for sharing your thoughts of the desert.
Thank you, Laura! I’m so glad you enjoyed it! All my best, Kate
Hi Kate,
Thanks for sharing what many of us echo regarding the peace & spiritual nature of our home. The strong juxtapose between Mt. San Jacinto & the open desert floor allow for a powerful combo.
Happy Hiking,
Scott 2
I couldn’t agree more, Scott! Well said, and thanks for stopping by!
All my best,
Kate
Very interesting article. Lea, did a Baltic cruise to those same cities last year and loved them too. I see you like Burning Man. We’re a nude sunbathing resort here in Palm springs and have lots of burning Man attendees stay with us.
We’ve been in Palm Springs for 17 years. I’ve followed your business and have a lot of respect for you. Thanks for the interview. Tom
Ray is a friend of mine from college, and I thoroughly enjoyed this interview.
There is no other mother that could be more proud of having a loving son who in himself is well liked by everyone that he meets. He has always been a pride and joy to his family. MoM
What a lovely interview with one of the most amazing, wonderful, fabulous, generous and thoughtful ladies in the world! She and Jerry are tremendous assets to the Valley and are always willing to lend a hand to friends in need. Thank you for spotlighting Barbara Keller, an extraordinary friend and advocate. She is beautiful inside and out!!
We love the Follies. A huge part of downtown Palm Springs Life. I’ve had the pleasure of working with the Follies for the past 3 seasons. It is always a joy to see audiences leaving the theatre after a performance with smiles and tears on their faces.
I used to work with Ray in the south suburbs of Chicago. Congrats to you Ray on all of your achievements and your recent writing success. Seems we have that passion in common. Take care. Pascal “Pat” Marco
There is no direct flight from New York to Palm Springs. It stops in San Francisco. How are the Gay couples in New York to go on there honeymoons in Gay Palm Springs. And how are their relatives and friends going to visit them if they intend to move there. Delta, American, Jet Blue and the rest must plan limited flights to see if this can be a profitable endeavor. The mayor of Palm Springs as well as the gentleman that directs PSP should reach out to these airlines and convince them of the advantage of taking this step linking New York JFK and Palm Springs PSP. I would like a response to my suggestion and see that this idea could profit all that are a part of it and I don’t mean profit only in the monetary sense alone.
Happy New Year !
How well I remember being up on the roof of the long-gone Beverly Hills Health Club for Men, in the 1970s, chatting with David Lee about our career ambitions and hopes. At the time, I think we were both represented by the same stock broker turned agent, Peri Winkler, the wife of Lee Winkler, President of Global Business Management.
I’m truly enjoying the design and layout of your website. It’s a very easy on the eyes which makes it much more enjoyable for me to come here and visit more often. Did you hire out a developer to create your theme? Excellent work!|

Sue Lovato was my General Mgr when I worked at Villa Royale Inn and got to know Ray Lovato as well. I have only the kindest words for both of them. They are such nice people that it made me want to be a better employee for them, great experience for me because I truly met some good people. Much continued success for Ray and Sue…
I visited Marilyn in Chicago the day she left for her trip to Palm Springs. Told her we would meet again in Palm Springs, which we did!
Glad to have you protecting and serving us Chief
Mindy I’m proud to know you and to be your team mate again this year.
Ride on with tailwinds!!
Kim, This was a wonderful interview and you look great. I still think the idea of Guide Dogs of the Midwest is a good idea too
David,
Thanks for your brilliant contributions to the creation of “Frasier”… Whenever it’s on— I watch it and I’m hooked on the brilliant writing and cast. I just wondered if you live in that beautifully designed modern home in Palm Springs… which was covered in Met Home magazine several years ago? I hope so… it is dream home for me and an inspiration to my dedication to outstanding residential architecture.
Respectfully,
Jim Cappellino
I want to make arrangements for a windmill turbine tour for this weekend but need to ask some questions first. Cannot find a phone number anywhere! Please call my cell (562) 743-5992. There are 4 or 6 of us for the tour, dependingh on the information I get from our phone call. Please call. You can send email, but calling would be better. I have wanted to do this for years! Thanks. Inspiring and comprehensive vision for the city. Thank you!
Cool site, thanks for posting this, I am at the moment studying to be a professional event planner, I will book mark this blog site, many thanks for your efforts in publishing the blog.
Tyler is an extraordinary young man. I had the pleasure of being his 2nd and 3rd grade teacher. Aside from being handsome he is intelligent and creative. This project to invigorate and add fun to our beautiful Palm Springs only touches the tip of his incredible mind. Tyler has so much support here and so many people care about him. I am proud of where he is going and the fact that he is taking Palm Springs with him!
Best of luck to you, Tyler, on this innovative venture!
Tyler, thanks for hosting this and also creating a DJ contest! I did enter, I would appreciate it if everyone here took a second to vote for me =] https://wavo.me/apps/charts/splash-house-dj-contest/7980991903710000
Congratulations, Joan Boiko, on this well-deserved honor, the Helene Galen Excellence in Education Award. Like my friend, Helene Galen, you are wonderful inspiration, mentor and cherished member of our community.
I treasure our friendship, our professional relationship, and look forward to the many accomplishments and gifts you’ll continue to bring to our valley.
Enjoy your special moment on Friday at the WLF Luncheon…wish I could celebrate with you! See you Friday night!
Lynn
I have an A/P of this exact Serigraph for sale. It is Hypnotic.
I have had the privilege to know Joan since 2002, when we served as charter members in Soroptimist
International of Palm Springs. Such a hard worker and a great personality for a service organization. I always admired her absolute love and loyalty for her famiy. This is an honor well deserved!
Susan..you are amazing. Everything you do turns to gold. Congratulations. Proud to bve your friend!!!!
The forever enchanting Joey never ceases to amaze me – her past, her present & her future are so worthy of our attention. I hope you continue exploring and sharing this divas remarkable life.
Excellent article. If I ever won the lottery, which is the only way I could do this – I would have Chris re-do our house in San Francisco, THEN my house here in Palm Springs.
My son says, “Mom, you have to buy a lottery ticket to win, you know.” He’s right.
So very honored to know and work with you. You are such a talented individual!
So glad Gertie is up & at ’em and so very pleased you are a part of our Palm Springs Community and our entertainment community as well. YOU ROCK LADY!
Isn’t it kinda strange that we still don’t know the
name of the sculptor? I’d guess he (male, I presume)
must have other works displayed elsewhere. This is so
monumental that I’m sure he must have done others.
New Jersey sculptor Seward Johnson
I went to Hacienda to see what all the hype was. Had a Margarita and some lunch. I saw Tyler and his family as I know who they are from PSHS. Daughter graduated same year with Tyler. I told the friends I was with I wouldn’t be surprised if Tyler and family either were running the event or owned the Hacienda. Looked it up and I was right. Great to see the success Tyler. Good for you!!
I really appricate Dave and his humble personally as he is seeking to do community supporting things that are benefiting many. Often visionary people can be self serving first, but he seems to find magic with mixing entertainment with cause and everyone wins. Well done.
Lee,
When are you opening again? Called and got a message that you would be open after Labor day, but you were not. We went to Kaiser Grill and met your brother Eric.
I wish you a GREAT season and hope to make my grape leaves for you and Francious soon. I know you will love them.
Take care, Lynda Samen “Safe~T~Sleeve”
is the statue still in palm springs?

Great ideas for doing something fun and new. The robolights look awesome.
Yeah….is she in Palm Springs now (March 2015)? I understand her visit had ended in 2014. The article should have a date if it doesn’t. I’d be interested in hearing where her she lives now.
Great article! 🙂
What a lovely article. So proud of you Chad! Our family is very blessed to have such a wonderful Chef in our midst!
Ginny, I feel I am almost a dear friend of yours. I, too, suffered at the hands of one man that I trusted. I fell, face-down, from the consequences, but picked myself up and went back to college at the age of 59. I graduated, and went on to earn my Masters in Creative Writing. I was able to have my memoir published one year ago. I would love to meet with you. I have read your book twice and was so moved that it inspired me to write my own story.
I have lived in Palm Desert for six years now, and often drive into Palm Springs to enjoy all the fun things to do. I would love to get involved in some of the marvelous work you do, and applaud you for such wonderful work you have done for Mizell. In the past I was a frequent visitor to Mizell and spent many hours working as editor for an author who was a member there.
This is a great story and visit with Amy Blaisdale – it is always good to get the scoop about our destination City – Palm Springs – from someone who has roots here.
J.R. says SEXUAL PREFERENCE? Where HAS he been? No, on his candidacy.
Signed,

by accident, while I was researching on Digg for something else,
Nonetheless I am here now and would just like to say many thanks for a remarkable post and a
all round enjoyable blog (I also love the theme/design), I don’t have time
to look over it all at the moment but I have bookmarked it and also added in your RSS
feeds, so when I have time I will be back to read a great deal more, Please do keep up the great work.
Dear Judy Deertrack , I hate to tell you this but the city that you wish to lead in the future is far more corrupt that you can ever imagine. Up until 2002 I had only one traffic ticket conviction in the previous 20 years of my life. Enter Eisenhower Medical Center, the Palm Springs police Department and the Annenberg trust and my wonderful life turned into a living hell. If you are interested in the details I wrote a book about this adventure entitled “All of the Commodore’s Men” the details of which are below.

I am somewhat of an expert on the city of Palm Springs in that in 2003 the city of Palm Springs filed 6 restraining orders on me and I took them to court and defeated all 6 of them and caused their attorney David Alshire to be fired for the incompetence of losing the case against me. I do not think that the city of Palm Springs is run by criminals, I know that it is run by criminals.
At this time the Palm Springs police Department has over $15000 worth of my legal guns, computers and WW2 war memorabilia that despite an official written demand by my attorney for the return of this material his/my demands have been ignored. There are no criminal charges pending against me at this time. However, I am actually somewhat sympathetic to PSPD’s criminal behavior in this matter as much of this material that they have possession of is evidence that I have against them for a civil suit against them and to be perfectly honest, if I was a criminal like they are, I would probably be behaving just like they are now.
Perhaps you know some of their rank and file members and you will ask them about me. They will undoubtedly say that I am a terrorist and a stalker and maybe even that I steal candy from the mouths of babies or that they cannot comment on the case due to pending litigation. These are all lies as all criminal charges that they had against were fraudulent and long ago dismissed. I on the other hand can say that to a man they are all liar’s thieves and scoundrels of the worst kind. I was actually stalked by their Lt Don Fallon (RET) in St Theresa’s Catholic Church during services on Good Friday in 2007. We also caught city manager David Ready perjuring himself during one of these 18 civil TRO hearings.
If you are interested about the PSPD story you can purchase a down load of the book for $4.00. Let’s just say that the last time that PSPD pulled me over for a traffic violation that I admit to have committed, when they determined who I was, I was immediately releases without a word of anger on my part. That was a $240 fine that PSPD let slip through their fingers apparently in an attempt to not anger me anymore that I already am due to apparent pending litigation.
You are undoubtedly wondering what all of this stuff has to do with you. Well, as a candidate running for mayor, it has everything to do with you especially with the oath to protect and defend the constitution that you took as a commissioned naval officer. To the Palm Springs police Department, the Riverside District attorney and especially the Riverside Superior court the US constitution is a joke and a minor inconvenience to be only enforced when somebody is looking and the only way to have it honored is to smash, bash and crash the reputations of those who violate it. If I was running for mayor I would not take a red cent from PSPD in campaign contributions because then you would, like current mayor Pougnet, have to look the other way when PSPD screws up if you win.
Also keep in mind that a few years ago PSPD wrongly prosecuted the president of the police advisory commission who was a gay man for having sex with an under aged man without even verifying the age of the man who turned out to not be underage. This president of the police advisory commission was a harsh and outspoken critic of PSPD. PSPD had this innocent man wrongly labeled as a sex offender. PSPD is more of a vengeance force than a public safety agency. And PSPD cannot be controlled by the city council or the city manager.
The only way to force PSPD to join the human race and act as a constitutionally enabled public safety agency is to tether them to video surveillance cameras constantly and that includes their command level personnel. If PSPD wants to act like children then they should be treated like children. Every citizen should be asked to watch PSPD and report any wrong doing to the office of mayor. I already caught Dave Ready the city manager lying under oath in court to maintain plausible deniability of police wrong doing so he can never be trusted.
I feel so strongly about this citizen’s surveillance of the police I am considering sending a letter to every voter in Palm Springs warning them that PSPD is out of control and answers to no one except themselves. It is also important to note that the district attorney Mike Hestrin’s father collects a PSPD pension and Hestrin will never find fault with anything that PSPD does when asked to investigate, as a result of this “obvious conflict of interest”, acts of wrong doing on the part of PSPD no matter how violent they may be. In 2012 PSPD needlessly slaughtered an unarmed active duty Marine Corps corporal because he refused to turn off the engine to his car, tasored to death an unarmed man because he was running around cars at an intersection and severely wounded a third innocent bystander in a senseless shoot out. The American Civil Liberties Union recommends that all police everywhere should be watched and photographed as needed when acting illegally. PSPD needs to be policed by the very people they are hired to be the police for.
Thank you for your time!!!
Michael J. McArdle
Ask “foolish fountain foat” when she knew the x mayor was going down the wrong path!
If she doesn’t say from almost the very beginning she is lying!
That didn’t happen in a vacuum! People talk! People with great creds. talk!
I want to talk to you! I have talked to almost all the candidates!
Somebody who is high in the city ranks thinks you have a good chance!
I’ll decide that myself!!
Developers, Merchants, “real’ residents”!
That’s not the order this city should be following. You either agree or you don’t
And the indians! Most of the problems are on their land! If they are a SOVEREIGN NATION, I suggest we declare war! We bomb everyone else! Why not the indians?
Just how many people have to tell the x mayor that he is an embarrasement to the whole village and should go to Denver!
But before he leaves he needs to pay back the money he was paid to do nothing!
There is no way he can ever repay for the things he did wrong!
The “real residents” are paying for that! OVER AND OVER AGAIN!
Been a follower for years.. You are a star in my eyes.. Your friend Babs Jackson.. wish i had your education…
As a Trans survivor and advocate, I am happy to know of your helping people in need, Thank You, Monica Kell DC (ret)

A well deserved honor for a great woman and an excellent interview. Kudos!
I am delighted to see such an apparently qualified woman as CEO of DRMC. As a former volunteer, 1995-2005, I well remember a former CEO who qustioned the point of my being a volunteer after I complained about a very rude neurosurgeon when I answered incoming calls for one of the ICU units. The then volunteer coordinator ignored my concerns completely. My expectation is that this situation has improved since her departure and that of the CEO. Nursing staff in ICU told me this doctor was routinely verbally abusive to everyone.
I am honored to call Susan Murphy a friend. She is a wonderful mentor, always willing to help other women in any way she can.
The statue was on a national tour in 2014. http://isawmarilyn.com/
Here is an article on its dismantling in Palm Springs: http://www.nj.com/mercer/index.ssf/2014/04/giant_marilyn_monroe_statue_begins_cross-country_journey_to_njs_grounds_for_sculpture.html
Forever Marilyn is part of the works of New Jersey sculptor Seward Johnson and overseen by The Sculpture Foundation http://sculpturefoundation.org/
Latest updated on where the Marilyn Monroe statue is located from Paula Curator Stoeke of THE SEWARD JOHNSON ATELIER, INC. We at PalmSprings.com agree that she should reside permanently in Palm Springs.
We were asked to give an update on the much-missed Forever Marilyn sculpture. I am happy to report that, as of last week, she is vacationing “down under” at the Bendigo Art Gallery (a museum in the state of Victoria), in Australia. The museum is opening a spectacular exhibit of all things Marilyn, and the sculpture is standing at the main crossroads of the city, greeting all visitors.
This is a temporary international display, and we continue active and promising negotiations regarding her return to Palm Springs.

Fantastic article. Extremely happy for your success!
WHAT A WONDERFUL ARTICLE. WHEN TROY VISITS US BACK IN ROCKFORD WE ARE FORTUNATE TO HAVE HIS EXPERTISE TO HELP CREATE A beautiful and inviting yard and outdoor living area. The gentle curves or our flower beds, the dramatic effect of his uplighting on our trees, the lush and colorful planting and our pots brimming and overflowing with gorgeous specimens. All the neighbors commented on our flowers and enjoyed our beautiful landscape almost as much as we do. When we come to the southwest and view his completed projects, we are in awe of his talent and creative ability. He has such a natural gift. Your article about troy was wonderful, we want to thank you for appreciating his talent.
I am with John Weeks, the Museum of Pinball – Banning, CA – it seems I am no longer receiving this fabulous article. Have you discontinued the blog, article. Thank you – laura.
Dick was also an early pioneer in bringing fire dept. paramedic service to Riverside County— a great man and forward thinking doer!!!
“Broadway at the River” sounds wonderful. Such a treat to have dinner and the theater in our community. Thank you!
It’s a nice story about Marilyn even though her life was not easy and she was betrayed and her life was shortened by some kind of a poisoning intervention.
Who got the punishment ?
