Coachella Music Festival 2022: April 15-17 AND April 22-24
Palm Springs gets ready to rock this weekend! The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival will take place April 10 – 12 and April 17 – 19 at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California. Along with headliners AC/DC, Jack White, and Drake, more than 100 bands will perform across multiple stages at this year’s event, now in its 16th year (Coachella started in 1999, and has been running consecutively since 2001). This year’s “rock god” theme continues with am impressive lineup including Bad Religion, Steely Dan, Wu-Tang Clan stars Raekwon and Ghostface Killah, and David Guetta. Also on tap: Ryan Adams, Belle and Sebastian, Florence and the Machine, Interpol, Fitz and the Tantrums, and St. Vincent.
The event features multiple musical genres, and eclectic art installations and sculpture—most of them interactive. The two weekends also feature a plethora of games and activities, including corn hole, dodgeball, and hula hooping. But we’re not talking a little garden party here—in 2014, Coachella recorded an aggregate attendance of 579,000 over the six days of the festival and grossed a record-breaking $78.3 million, making it the top-grossing festival of the year. All of which is very, very good for Palm Springs and the Coachella Valley. According to a 2012 economic impact study, Coachella Fest brought $254.4 million to the area that year; of that total, the City of Indio received $89.2 million in consumer spending and $1.4 million in tax revenue. Not too shabby.
2015 Coachella passes went on sale on January 7th and are no longer available—the Riverside Press-Enterprise reported that passes sold out in less than 40 minutes on the day after the festival lineup was announced. If you’re one of the lucky 579,000 or so this year who scored one, the following general rules, do’s and don’ts detail what to expect.
