To Whom It May Concern:
My mother has Alzheimer's with dementia and was in her 4th year when I came
out, at her doctor's request, to care for her. She continued to worsen until
I finally realized that I could no longer care for her without causing problems
to my own family. I placed my mother in a non-locked facility in Desert
Hot Springs. This place was great for the first 3 months until she started
to wander off of the property. They called me and said that I would have
to remove my mother as they could no longer care for her.
I placed her in a Palm Springs facility and queried them as to whether or
not they could keep her if she was wandering. "Yes," they said,
"we specialize in Alzheimer's patients." However, 2 months later
they called to tell me that my mother was wandering off of the property.
They also informed me that the cost would now be $3,000 PLUS expenses per
month. I had no choice. By this time, my mother did not recognize me 60%
of the time.
Unbeknownst to me, Francine Brooks had stopped by the facility, noticed
what was going on and called to tell me that my mother was vegetating in
there. She informed me that they were strapping my mother into her bed at
night and, to prevent her wandering, strapping her into her wheelchair during
the day. I expected a little more for $3,000 a month! With my approval,
Francine immediately located a far superior facility for $1,000 less a month
that gave my mother the personal attention she needed.
Unfortunately, by this time, my financial problems had worsened to the point
where I could no longer afford to maintain even the lesser expense of the
new facility. My mother was receiving $1,074.00 a month from Social Security
and I was carrying the balance. Francine immediately located another facility
in Cathedral City that would provide the appropriate care for $1,000 a month.
Thank God for Francine! When the facility my mother was in got wind of this,
they offered to retain her for $1,250 a month. Francine explained to them
that $1,000 would be the maximum I could afford. They then called me and
agreed to keep my mother for $1,000 a month
Francine Brooks will do whatever it takes to care for the person who needs
help and she will continue to check in on them to make sure that they are
being properly cared for. She will help you if you have financial problems
to get you the best possible care while staying within your budget.
I couldn't recommend her more.
Sincerely,
Michael P. Hallisey
