Text Box: Heritage Middle School’s eighth graders have the opportunity to take one of three English courses. While each course has unique aspects, all of them incorporate critical reading strategies, literary and expository writing skills, research methods, speaking and presentation skills, listening techniques, technology practice, and visual literacy.

Text Box: Our BIG Project
HMS eighth graders chose a university, college, or technical school to become the “expert” on for their peers. This unit often begins in December with letters to the school requesting information and culminates around spring break with presentations. Students research using college material, the Internet, and primary sources.
They write note cards, outlines, rough drafts, their formal paper, and bibliographies.
To accompany their oral class presentation, they create a multimedia visual.

Family Access to Skyward Grades
Every effort will be made to post daily assignments by the end of the week.
Major tests, all projects, and writing assignments require much more time to grade carefully and might take up to 2 1/2 weeks to be posted. In these cases, your student will know the grading timeline and may know their grade before posting. Please check with them first.

Note: Grades will be up-to-date Tuesday of the 4th week of a 6 weeks (Progress Report time) and by Wednesday morning of a new 6 weeks. (Report Card time)

A grade is only MISSING if it has a 0 as the score.
Assignments will be listed before they are assigned or graded.
Skyward marks these “missing” . Remember: NO ZERO = NOT MISSING
