A Quarter Century Of Champions
- EXCITEMENT -
Celebrating 25 years, the 1996 Nabisco Dinah Shore is set for March 25 - 31 at spectacular Mission Hills Country Club in Mirage, California. The silver anniversary event is expected to draw 100 of the world's best professional woman golfers including defending champion Nanci Bowen and favorites Dottie Pepper, Amy Alcott, Donna Andrews and Nancy Lopez. The first of only four majors during the year, this tournament is one of the most prestigious on the LPGA Tour and is often fondly referred to as the "Masters" of ladies golf. In 1972, the first event had a purse of $100,000 and $20,000 for first place. Of the record $900,000 purse this year, the winner will take home $135,000.
MEMORIES -
The excitement of the tournament has built with each passing year. Highlighting
the event's history are these memories:
Jane Blalock claimed the first title in 1972.
Juli Inkster, Sandra Post and Betsy King have each captured the Nabisco
title twice.
Amy Alcott has taken
the trophy home three times.
In 1988 Amy
Alcott took the first memorable jump in the lake at the 18th green. Dinah
joined her in 1991.
Helen Alfredsson
captured her very first title, a major, in 1993.
In 1994, to honor Dinah and continue the splashy tradition, Donna Andrews
dove in for a swim.
Nanci Bowen
took the title last year, her first, and the Wall of Champions was installed to
honor Dinah and the past champions.
While the 18th green unnerves many
who approach it, the results are Shore to be memorable. Come celebrate the Nabisco
Dinah Shore and celebrate a quarter century of champions.

Franco Harris, Toni Tennille and Don Meredith have joined the lady professionals
in the past. Tee times start at 7am. Spectators may bring their cameras.
