travelling solo (looking for the best isolated, quiet place)

I've heard much about palm springs and so I was thinking of making a detour there before arriving to my final destination. But I want to stay some place without a crowd. Some place where I can be isolated, away from the hustle and bustle of the overcrowded city and enjoy nature. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
