Palm Springs just keeps getting better. It truly has become a modern mecca for art, architecture, and design—not to mention fabulous hotels, resorts, and fine dining. I had the pleasure of spending President’s Day weekend in the desert with friends at the intersection of the apex of Modernism Week and Art Palm Springs.

Modernism Week’s signature February festival will take place February 16-26, 2017, highlighting midcentury modern architecture, art, interior and landscape design, and vintage culture in the Palm Springs area of Southern California. Largely self-taught in the field of design, Chris Pardo spent eight years living/studying across the West Coast before returning to Seattle to attend the University of Washington’s Masters of Architecture program. While a student, he cofounded Pb Elemental Architecture along with former partner Dave Biddle. The firm grew quickly focusing not only on design, but also construction, development and real estate. In less than five years the duo had successfully designed over 500 projects. J.R. Roberts attended UCLA and worked for individual clients before spending 12 years as a partner with Boccardo Roberts Architecture and Design. He currently serves as vice president of PSModCom, an organization dedicated to the preservation of historic architecture. J.R. also serves on the Palm Springs Planning Commission, and was the former chairman of the museum’s Architecture and Design Council. J.R. was recently named Managing Director of the new Palm Springs Art Museum Architecture and Design Center, Edwards Harris Pavilion (opening November, 2014).
