Palm Springs Chamber of Commerce Announces 2016 Athena Award Honorees

The Palm Springs Chamber of Commerce’s 30th Annual Diamond Anniversary Winter Wonderland Athena Awards Holiday Gala is coming up on Friday, Dec. 2nd at 12noon at the Palm Springs Convention Center.

Born and raised in Wisconsin, Betty Callies moved to Northern California in the early 1980s. She worked in the Bankcard Industry then became a Certified Court Reporter in San Francisco specializing in pre-trial litigation. In 2007, Betty was hired as the in-house court reporter for the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians in Palm Springs. In 2008, she became Director of Tribal Administration.

Philanthropist and civic leader Annette Modell Bloch was born in Philadelphia where she lived until her marriage to Richard Bloch, founder of H&R Block. She and her late husband have three daughters, seven grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. A breast cancer survivor and philanthropist, Annette is president of the R.A. Bloch Cancer Foundation and oversees the Bloch Cancer Hotline. She is a trustee of the Palm Springs Art Museum.
