Helga King (Wolfenstein) was born in Brno, Czechoslovakia in 1922. After the arrival of Adolph Hitler's Nazis in 1938, Helga taught elementary school classes for children who were no longer permitted to attend public schools. In 1941, Helga and her mother were transported to the Theresienstadt (Terezin) Concentration Camp in North Bohemia. She survived there working in a drawing office with painters, graphic artists and architects. Her best friend and great love was the painter, poet and writer Peter Kien - best known posthumously for writing the libretto that Viktor Ullman used to create the opera "The Emperor of Atlantis" (known by the Theresienstadt inmates as "Death Abdicates").

Kate Buckley's paintings are in private collections in Florida, Kentucky, New York, Laguna Beach and Palm Springs, and have been published in journals such as The Adirondack Review and purchased by such entities as The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (Board of Directors Invitation 2005).
Classically trained, yet inspired by her Kentucky roots, and a deep curiousity for what lies under the skin of things, Kate Buckley's paintings are an exploration of what binds us together and what tears us apart. Buckley's compositions tell stories against big backdrops, then focus in on the elemental nuances. Working primarily in acrylics and mixed media collage, in subject matter ranging from mythology to philosophical quandaries of the modern age, Kate Buckley's dreamlike images create worlds all their own.
